Tanya and Mike met in Tanya's friend Lindsay's (coincidentally also Mike's cousin) car on the way to Oktoberfest. It was love at first dance that weekend, when Tanya tricked Mike in to dancing in exchange for a ski date. To this day, that ski date has not happened. But they have danced together many times since! And bought a house together, and adopted a cat, and a dog, and who knows what else Tanya might be hiding around. A penguin perhaps? Her sisters suggestion, not mine.
Family is wildly important to them, and so many different aspects of their wedding day were a testament to that. They added in interviews with their closest friends and families on rehearsal day, Tanya wore her mom's wedding dress, and all their parents came up to the altar for a prayer together.
One of my favorite parts of Tanya and Mike’s story is the way Mike proposed. He made a custom viewmaster slide, you know those clickable eye piece toys from back in the day? He put photos of them together over the years with messages on them. At the end, when Tanya pulled away the viewmaster, Mike was on one knee. It was such a cool story that I knew we needed to capture the slides! So I found a projector on Ebay and I went over to their house and captured everything against the wall. It’s especially cool because it maintained the transition between slides, that kind of click-whoosh effect.
Their ceremony took place at St. Cecilia's in Boston, quite possibly the most beautiful and welcoming church in the city. Father John baptized Mike so
having him officiate was the main reason they took their North Shore wedding in to the city for ceremony. I don't blame them, Father John is a most kind and thoughtful priest who always ads a personal touch.
Once the ceremony was over we hopped in our cars and boogied up to Danversport. It was our first time here, and their main ballroom is GORGEOUS. The whole grounds are beautiful. But specifically inside, the arched beam ceiling with the chandeliers, and the way the light streams in during sunset. In a word, dreamy.
Tanya and Mike had a most special first dance that was a mash up of several songs and killer moves. Boston Common Band brought the tunes and entertainment late into the night, and played some surprisingly non-traditional songs! Or maybe the 90's are becoming traditional wedding songs? Plus a version of Bohemian Rhapsody? Either way, they totally crushed it, and had the guests on that dance floor all night.
