Unexpected, the perfect summation of J + N’s relationship and wedding journey.

When they were forced to postpone their wedding in March due to the pandemic, they decided to elope. They so elegantly demonstrated to us all that though plans may change, love will always win in the end. Witnessing them stand in the middle of a staggeringly empty Post Office Square and exchange vows was pure joy.

The vendors, the ones normally working silently behind the scenes, bubbled over in cheers and laughter.

What an insanely unique opportunity, to walk around a staggeringly empty city of Boston. Hardly any cars on the road, and very few people out and about. We ran and jumped in the streets. We basked in the golden early spring light. We reveled in marvelous celebration of their love!

Although no guests were in attendance at their elopement, their families were able to share in that joy by watching the full ceremony video the very next day!

And plans are in place to party like it’s still 2019 at a later date.

If you postponed your wedding due to COVID-19 pandemic, don’t lose hope! And if you want to you can still get married in early 2020 in a small and carefree way.

To get a little technical about this special elopement…

J + N are good friends of mine and although I am their official videographer when their big celebration arrives, this elopement was filmed as a favor to them. Always a vendor and never a guest!

During the elopement everyone observed social distancing guidelines, you can even see the distance their officiant stood from them. I opted to wear a mask in addition to observing social distancing. No people involved since those few weeks ago have reported symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19.

How were microphones placed? Each person was tossed a sanitized and sealed pouch with the microphone and recorder. I made and sent them an instructional video in advance on how to hide and operate the microphone themselves to maintain all social distancing guidelines. Lysol wipes were used during all exchanges back and forth.

How did the photographer, Marcela, and I work together? Like binary stars orbiting delicately around each other.

Listen, I’m paranoid about germs even during normal times. So if you want to learn more about the precautions I took, I will be sharing it all in a blog post this week which includes my 17 step “coming home” procedure. Spoiler, it involves leaving my camera bag in the garage for a full week in addition to sanitizing it twice. This will be our new normal for the remainder of 2020, and necessary to protect ourselves while still creating lasting memories for our couples.
